Pavilion Community Cafe

The Pavilion Community Cafe opened for the first time on Monday 18th May 2009. This day marked the fulfillment of a long held dream for former cafe host, Jan Bowen, who is a member of Pavilion Christian Community. For many years Jan has enjoyed seeing people gather and feel relaxed around the table together and has had a heart for bringing that welcoming, warming place into The Pavilion. This, combined with her passion and talent for cooking and baking, finally found an outlet when it became clear that people wanted to see a cafe in the park.

The idea is simple, come with friends or come alone, chat or sit quietly, order large to share or small just for yourself. There’s tea in pots or coffee in cafetieres or either in a mug. There’s a fabulous range of cakes, biscuits, muffins, loaves, brownies and cupcakes, all homemade and the portions are generous. The three tiered carrot cake “Cake of the Week” in opening week was a delicious and delightful extravagance!!

Having now been open for a year the Cafe has had a change of supervisor and the faces are sometimes different but that same community spirit and warmth is ever present. Now in the care of Zara, the Cafe is going from strength to strength and now plays host to many evening community events, including Open Mic Nights, Theatre and Swap Shops. Keep your eyes peeled to http://rowheathpavilion.co.uk/latest-news/ or check out the Pavilion Community Cafe’s facebook group.

The cafe is open on Mondays – Thursdays from 9am until 4.30pm and on Saturdays from 10pm until 4pm and we offer home made cakes, jacket potatoes and sandwiches. We hope that soon, with greater resources, we can open at least every week day and in time increase what’s on the menu over the lunch time period. The cafe is staffed and run by volunteers and if you think you might be interested in helping out in the future please come along to see us or call The Pavilion and leave your details so someone can call you back.

Drop in when you’re passing, have a coffee, have a chat or just have a look at the changes we’ve made inside. Come back to the table….
